Relapse Prevention

According to AddictionsandRecovery.org, relapse prevention is not an easy process, it requires a day-to-day basis. Controlling the signs or situation that increase the risk of engaging in behaviors of addiction boosts the success of recovery. Support group also helps lessen the risk of relapse because it allows helping the addicts release their emotions that can lead to a relapse.
Express your Emotions
It is important to express your feelings. According to the Orchid Recovery Center, keeping your emotions to yourself increases the risk of relapse. Letting someone know helps you in dealing with your emotions. You can either share your emotion through a friend or someone you trust or through a support group.
Join a Support Group
Having the support of your family, friends, support groups or someone is crucial to prevent relapse. They serve as a medium to for you to be able to release negative feeling and stress. They can also watch out for any signs of relapse.
Avoid Triggering Situations
Avoid places or friends that tempt you to re engage in your addiction. It is better to find new friends and places. Avoid gatherings or a party that needs you to participate.
Use Distraction Techniques
If you feel engaging with your addiction, use distraction techniques to prevent your craving. Wait 10 to 30 minutes and do some activity like walking, talking to a friend, biking or a simple exercise. If the urge is still there after these activities, talk to someone who can help you to prevent the urge and avoid doing your addiction.
Take Care of Your Health
Be healthy, get at least eight hours of sleep per day, and eat a proper diet and try to meditate or by taking a warm bath to avoid stress. Eating poorly and not getting enough rest worsens your health that can increase the risk of relapse
